Meet Dr. Christine Michaels

Dr. Michaels has had the joy of meeting so many unique and wonderful individuals throughout her career.  She is excited to learn something new every day.  She enjoys getting to know people and hopefully make the orthodontic process an easy and pleasant one for everyone.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree – University of Iowa
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Iowa
  • Master of Science in dentistry – University of Pittsburgh
  • Certificate in orthodontics – University of Pittsburgh

Dr. Michaels is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists. She also belongs to and participates in the Contemporary Dental Forum, a branch of the Seattle Study Club. Most of her continuing education is done through this forum.  This group of general dentists and dental specialists meets monthly to review current research and trends in all fields of dentistry, and collaborates often on cases that require multiple aspects of dentistry.  This allows her to look at patients in her practice with not only her orthodontic knowledge, but also with the insight of ways to approach complicated situations and be able to refer to others for specific dental needs.  Dr. Michaels was also voted as one of the 2016 Top Area Dental Specialists by her peers.

Professional Motivation

I wanted to be an orthodontist ever since 5th grade, when I had braces and saw my own smile transformed.  I wanted to be able to create that same feeling of confidence and pride in other people.  Although I have been practicing orthodontics for over 20 years, I still get enjoyment from watching the smile transform into something even more beautiful.  I feel that everyone deserves to be proud of their smile.  We cater to children with dental fears and to those with special needs.  My staff and I take pride in making everyone feel welcome in the office.  The atmosphere is very warm and spa-like in the office, and the staff is warm and friendly.  Unlike most orthodontic offices that have an open bay concept, we treat patients in individual rooms.  Each patient will have their adjustment appointments done in a private setting, with one assistant for the entire appointment.  This allows the assistant to focus on the patient without distractions.

Outside the Office

I grew up in Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago.  After completing my orthodontic training, I moved back to Chicago.  I settled in Woodridge for several years.  Then when I started a family I wanted to move to Naperville for their wonderful sense of community.  I have lived in Naperville for 17 years and have 3 wonderful children.  Katie is in college at Marquette University studying physical therapy.  Matthew has graduated high school and is very creative in music production and photography.  Samantha is the youngest and enjoys playing basketball and making music in her free time.  The entire family is in love with our dog, Jake.  He is a schnoodle, mix of poodle and schnauzer, and he is the highlight of our day.

I enjoy working out a few times a week, reading a book for our neighborhood book club and going to see live music or musical theater.  I'd like to get out on my bicycle or go for long walks a bit more, but that may have to wait a few more years.
